1978 Hot wire!
My 78 GL1000 was running fine, but suddenly some wiring in the area of the regulator started to heat up, enough for the insulation to start to smoke before I shut it down. Any ideas?

Check all wires going to/from the regulator and the three from the stator. I ended up hard soldering all my wires at these two points as corroded connectors are a big problem along the Gulf Coast. Since doing this, I've had no more smoking wires.

They're not just a problem along the Gulf Coast, they're a problem EVERYWHERE. These connectors are prone to heating and failure.goldtr6c wrote:Check all wires going to/from the regulator and the three from the stator.
