Dash lights on turn signal

Post by W3tsb »

I have a gl1100 and the turn signal dash light always are on. I checked all wires ok. But when I turn on right turn signal it goes out on dash and left light on dash stays lite. Same for left. The lights flash fine. Just confused on why the dash lights are always on. The brown with blue wire fuse tail. Has been modified with inline fuse as holder melted sometime . When I connect it to power it seems to cause the light on dash to sty lite. Also the rear air pressure light is lite even with proper pressure. Think it is all same issue. This bike sat 4 years and going over the whole thing so just any on-site will help. It is a standard gl1100. Thanks Todd

That's one of those types of things where nothing jumps out except for "It sat for four years" I'd be inclined to go through the wiring harness and see if any mice have been up under the tank/cover somewhere making a nest, they seem to like chewing through insulation!

I found they had wires crossed for parking lights and turn signal switch. Good now. But now seems like they also replaced water pump and got neutral switch 180 out . Now it comes on in 4 th gear. .

Very common occurrence when the water pump is changed if they didn't explicitly test it when they reinstalled the front engine cover. It takes a bit of trial and error to make sure the neutral switch gets engaged properly.

Can't really tell anything about timing belts by looking at them, so unless you know for sure they're less than 10 yrs old just change them. Doesn't cost all that much, a pair of Gates belts from Amazon runs about $35.
