How do I change the headlight bulb and is a replacement readily available?

I wondered this myself when I did mine, but it turns out it is fairly easy.

If you look at the back of the fairing, in the middle, right in front of the handlebar triple tree, you'll see the headlight adjustment knob, which you use to adjust the headlight up and down. Turn this knob until you see the small set screw in the side. Using a small screwdriver, loosen this set screw until you can pull the knob off.

There will be a nut and washer left on the shaft - loosen and remove these.

Now the headlight will come out - make sure you hold the headlight from the front so it doesn't fall on the ground, and then push the shaft forwards. The entire headlight assembly will come out the front of the bike. From there, it is easy to remove and replace the lightbulb.

Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, and is fairly easy.

The bulbs are a standard H4 headlight bulb, and are available anywhere - but I recommend you get one specifically manufactured for motorcycles, as they are more resistant to the vibration it will be subjected to. I HIGHLY recommend the Sylvania Silverstar H4ST (the H4 is for cars, H4ST is for motorcycles). I put one in my bike, and the difference at night is incredible - easily twice the light, without using any more power (which the 1100 doesn't have all that much of).

Thanks WingAdmin, this is useful info.
(A lot more useful that what I found in the Clymer book!)

I went one step further and replaced the whole lamp assembly with a Silverstar 6012 sealed beam. Better optics and lower amperage draw than replacing the bulb.
