1982 Wing engine stalling after 4000 RPMs

Post by jimradford » Mon May 05, 2014 11:17 am

I have a 1982 and 1983 wings...the 83 is strong thruout the RPM range. The 82 after 4K RPMs seems to be gasping for fuel/air.

Any ideas? or help? Middle Tennessee resident.

It can be a couple of things.Either there's not enough fuel supplied for the demand or one or more of the slides are stuck down.
The latter is easiest to confirm with a mirror and enough light to see the slides pop up when you rap the throttle.
Look at each one separately with the mirror in the bottom of the plenum.
Check or replace the fuel filter and test fuel/time per the manual.
The last possible is a weak pulse coil or weak coil, and the spark is failing.

I had a similar problem on my '82 Wing, lose power over 4000 rpm. Turned out the spark plug was the problem You might check/replace them.
