power to radio and accessories

Post by arnoldg »

I am not getting power to my radio and to my voltage indicator gauge and clock gauge. I checked all the fuses and all were good. Is there any way to check how many fuses go to these accessories and where they are located. this is on my 1982 goldwing gl

yes i did, I found 6 fuses in the left turn signal light area and all checked good. Also the fuses that are in the gas tank area next to the air compressor area and all checked good.

i'll assume 'checked good' means tested in some way and not just looked at

sounds like you are on top of the possible fuse issues, looks like at the least, wiring issues at this point, i'd get a wiring diagram and start with basic troubleshooting

I can't figure out what all those fuses in thre are for. The only accessories I have are the radio and cigar rest lighter, and there's a jumble of wires in there. Every time I try to power up the radio, a fuse blows. I'm beginning to suspect a short elsewhere

i also can not figure what all the fuses go to but i feel that there is a another fuse in there somewhere that is burned and
the reason why i don't have power to my radio and to the voltage gauge. i looked in my owners manual and it has no wiring diagram.
Does anyone know how I can get a wiring diagram or a troubleshooting manual?

That diagram is good ,but if I'm not mistaken, it doesn't have the radio or any of those other inline fuses on it. Is there one for the fairing and accessories?

That diagram does not have the radio, cb, or cassette.

I have a diagram of how to install the whole system.
I do not know how to get it on the web.
It is 12 pages.
If anyone wants a paper copy pm me with name and address.

Click on the Manuals page at the top, and download the Honda Goldwing Clarion Type II Radio Installation Manual. It has a diagram inside that shows all the connectors, fuses, wire colors, etc.

Indeed, that's a useful manual. I'll have to take the time to chase all those wires down and figure out where the short is now. At least I have a map

GOT IT !!!. I opened up the left turn signal again and this time i replaced all six fuses in there with new ones even though they checked out good with the volt meter ohms. When I replaced the 2 amp fuse my radio and voltage gauge came on. So I got everything back up. Thanks to everyone for all
your ideas. the fuse wiring chart really helped, it showed me that there were no other fuses to the radio and volt meter. I hope this helps someone
in the future. THANKS AGAIN, I will continue to view and maybe help someone like I was.

I have 1981 GL1100, recent purchase of 7 weeks. Decided to have a look at why Radio/cassette doesn't work. Cleaned wiring connector contacts, replaced a fuse in the in-line holder for the Radio and static then.... 'pop'.... and radio still don't work. Also nor does the volt gauge..... Thanks to all you guys and the previous posts helped by pointing to that rats nest of fairing wires. Ended up ditching all current fuses (tested ok!) in fairing with my brother and his tester (and some of his spare fuses) and as previous post the 2a fuse to blame, so volt gauge working again, radio/cassette in bin and looking for a new replacement. just love these posts. Thanks Again..

I have been following this post, great to find those fuses under signal light, did not know they were there. I replaced a couple fuses, the volt gauge only goes up slightly when key turned to on now. How much should it go up when engine not running?
