trailer wiring queastion

Post by 82gl1100fan »

So I know my 82 interstate uses the 5 wire to 4 wire system to run trailer lights. I went down to the local RV supply store they didn't have a 5 wire to 4 wire converter but they did have this on the Shelf (part #119130) It's labeled as a 3 wire to 2 wire converter but it looks exactly like the 5 to 4, has the wires in the right spot along with the right labeling. My question is does it the same thing or do i need to return this and my money back. Trying to figure this out before I go cutting into wires on it so I actually can't return it if i need to

I think that is the same as a 5 to 4 wire converter. Their designation is simply for the number of circuits that are actually converted.

Adapts import and domestic vehicles with separate turn and stop lights (3-wire system) to standard trailer taillight wiring (2-wire system). Taillight Converter (upgraded) - The unit is rated for up to 2.1 amps for Turns/Stops circuits and 7.5 amps for the Taillight Circuit. Includes 18" blunt leads and 4-flat with 60" lead.

Yes it is the same.
FYI lf you have LED lights on the trailer, you need to get a converter made for LED lights.
