GL1100 IGNITION SWITCH REMOVAL

Post by ApplecoreR6 »

Hi, I own a 1981 Gl1100 and the original owner has lost the key! I called the dealership for options and they said to remove the ignition switch so they can pull the code from it. I've fiddled around a lot to find how to remove the switch. I tried removing the fairing with no luck because most of the screws and bolts are stipped (not from me) and won't come loose. Any advice or help is appreciated, thank you.

Also there aren't many locksmiths around me.

Did the key open the lock on the saddle bag? or the right fairing pocket? or the helmet locks?

If so you can get the key code from those locks.

check this one out. You do not need a locksmith close by.

I see what where you're at, I have no keys and luckily the right pocket had broken off, I look off the lock and it has a 4-digit code, will this code work with the ignition as well? If so should I just take this lock (code) in and ask for a cut? I peered at the link you had sent me but not sure how it works. Thanks for the reply btw I appreciate it.

If the key fit the rt pocket and the ignition then you have your needed code. Chances are good that they will be the same.
Good luck finding a locksmith with the blank key needed.
The blanks is the important part of getting a key made.

Late post, but thanks for the suggestion, with your advice I got the right pocket in the fairing to break out. ( was already really loose ) I took the pocket lid to the Honda dealership and they cut me a key! Want to thank you for the advice! :D
