Front master cylinder brake switch

Post by Doolin05 »

I am doing a rebuild of the front master cylinder and was thinking of repainting it as well and am wondering if the brake switch comes off? I undid the little screw but the switch didn't budge...

Well, not sure what 'see fiche' means....but I managed to pull part of the switch out, leaving a plastic case seemingly cemented into the master cylinder. I found a replacement switch online, so I don't see what is holding it in?? I did remove the screw that I took to be for that purpose.

Best regards

Mine was pretty cemented in place with 34 years worth of grime. A little twisting, a little pulling, it'll eventually work it's way out. Keep at it.

FYI..there are now new cheap Chinese knockoff front master cylinders for the GL1100 & other wings on EBay, I recently got one for my 79 GL1000, around $35 (cheap as a rebuild kit)..the OE never had such good pressure, & it came with a new switch already installed in it!

Thanks for encouragement, I did finally get that rascal out...finally. I was thinking a former owner must have glued it in or something...maybe the guy who left a bit of wire between the main fuse posts instead of the 30amp fuse.

As always, Best regards!
