good morning everyone; i am working on a 1982 gl1100 .having trouble finding the correct master cyl rebuild kit for this bike . i have ordered two kits online and both were wrong. went to a local bike shop , ordered one and it was wrong.. the piston on mine is a smaller diameter than those i ordered. im not sure if someone put a different master cylinder on this bike. it only has 19000 miles on it. im at the point of trying to buy a whole new master cyl. any suggestions on the best place to get a new one.

I replaced front master cyl on my 1980 because the plastic reservoir was disintegrating, I got the replacement from a local Motorcycle Junk yard. I got it off a Yamaha that had dual front brakes as I recall....

I did the same thing as DenverWinger. Bought a fairly new MC off a Yamaha, replaced all of the lines with stainless, then rebuilt all of the calipers and new pads. I now have the proverbial two-finger brakes.

The MC on my '82 looks like this and I believe it's the original:

A bore size is normally stamped on the body of a master cylinder on the bottom. See if one is stamped on yours. On mine you can see the 5/8 which stands for 5/8 inches.

I have seen metric numbers stamped on them. 5/8" = 15.8mm. You might see a 15.5. There are alot of 14mm MCs out there and they often get used as replacements for the larger 5/8" MCs. Sounds like you might have one.
