1980 GL1100 horn could be better

Post by Doolin05 »

I would like to improve the rather pitiful sounding horns on my bike and can't find much info about upgrades or rebuilds. Is there a way to rebuild them with modern components somehow, or replace them with aftermarket horns? Thanks!

I have tried a couple of different horns. The one I am happiest with is from harbor freight.
bad boy. It comes with all you need to hook up and it is LOUD.

One of the reviews on Amazon said that the guy had to replace the horn a couple of times. It is loud according to the video they have.

During the renovation of my '75 GL1000 K1 I removed the red/black Fiamm horn (with that typically Italian "King of the Rome-streets" loud and full car horn signal), that was mounted on the original horn's mounting plate on the frame and mounted the typical (but relative "silent") chromish Honda Goldwing horn.
I did not want to miss my "Fiamm" and managed to build the Fiamm horn as a second horn within the faux tank frame, just besides the inlet of the airfilter housing............it was a very tight job, but it payed out full........both horns work at the same time.......when I use the horn with a friend nearby standing, he jumps in the air.........very amazing I can say.

A typical Fiamm horn, similar as mine

My single Fiamm horn and its separate 12V relay

The new chromish Honda Goldwing horn mounted on the frame

The Fiamm horn mounted within the faux tank (see red body) with its opening directing to the front of the bike

Another biker adding a Fiamm complementary to his OEM horn

Excellent information, I thank you sir. I used to have a 04 BMW 1150 rt, and the horn on that bike would wake the dead. I saw people in cars jump in their seats when they heard it...great fun!

You probably have received and mounted your horn by now.

Here is where I placed my horn.
