This is fro gl 1000 but numbers are simialar I check my shop manual and teh 83 is not listed for ohms specs..not sure why???

This is a very easy test to check your caps and coil secondaries. First a bit of info. Each "Stock" Spark Plug cap should read 5k Ohms, The coils themselves should read 14 K Ohms.

Using a Ohm Meter set to 50K or higher place one probe in the # 1 Plug cap and the other in the # 2 Plug cap (yes where the plug inserts). All bike power is off. The reading should be between 23k Ohms and 25k Ohms. Repeat the test for # 3 and #4 Plug caps.

Any reading greater than 25k should be investigated. I would start with pulling the plug caps and reading the coil wires directly. Then the Caps can be read out individually. Replacement Caps are commonly available.
