NO torque on a camshaft holder nut

Post by ernest rudshtein »

kinnda jammed here guys
finished to reassemble both heads after replacing head gaskets
on the right side of the engine , lower camshaft holder nut doesnt torque. sadly i reccon the inner screw thread is gone
i managed to find a different screw, same diameter, and made it a bit longer than the OEM one, to check the thread - threw out.
it torques to 27 n-m as supposed to
can i leave it on and re-check in 100 miles or so?
is it ok for the bolt to be longer (around 5-7 mm)? its a standart bolt that u can find in a hardware store. ( weights very similar to the original- generaly looks strong)

thanks to all
ariel

Probably be Ok but I'd drill it out a bit and re-tap with next size up and not worry about it. I think there is plenty of meat there to drill a bit larger.

I'd use a stainless steel insert (Helicoil) which would rethread to the original size. You can get them seperately and each size comes with the correct oversize tap to cut the thread to take the insert.

Definitely metric. According to the parts list it is an 8 x 70 (8mm thread 70mm long).

Yep all metric on Honda..you could pull another one to check it out but specs above seem correct. Another option is to fill the hole with aluminum repair rods(there is a thread over at NGW about this product.) , drill out and retap to original size.
