I think you have to cut a tube out at the rear of the frame to give room for the ignition unit but otherwise the engine bolts in. Not sure on the swing arm or front suspension.

Re: GL1100 to GL1000 frame
Everything will fit, but will require some minor... okay, a bunch of modifications. Something makes me think the 1000 swingarm pins need to be machined down to fit inside the 1100 swingarm as they are different sizes ant the 1100 pins do not fit the 1000 frame.

Wingriders post at NGW was pretty detailed. An option for you though, is to mount the 1100 motor in the 1000 frame. It will take a mod in the back upper cross tube. Some guys just notch half of the tube and weld it shut. Your 1100 front end from the triple tree down will slide right in. I’ve done it without disassembling anything except the triple tree. You just roll it under and into the neck.
The 1100 final drive is the rub. It requires a little grinding and machine work. However another option is to get the complete rear swing arm/ final drive/ brakes from a 1000 and it’s pretty much a drop in. 1000 master cylinder will be easier.
A lot of guys like this mod (1100 motor into a 1000) for the bottom end performance boost from the lower gearing. It might give up 2-4 mpg, but it will be much quicker off the line and more responsive in all gears.
Wiring is mounted differently on the 1100 under the false tank, but could be adapted. The 1100 false tank can be fitted fairly easily. Side covers will need work and battery box will be wired a little different.
Find a 75-77 with a trashed motor but good cans and you could drop the cams in for another little bump, more lift and duration. With that option, you could remove the rear ignition and use the 1000 ignition off the left head. Wingrider has some decent detail on how to remove the rear ignition and avoid chopping the frame on his build.
