GL1100 Gearing Ups and Downs

Post by nealerobertson »

I have recently aquired a 1982 GL1100 restoration project.
To date I have never ridden her.
She has been untouched for at least a year due to me being ill.
Today I attempted to reverse the bike out of the garage in order to do a bit of work but discovered that it had somehow gotten itself into gear and because of this was unmoveable. I tried in vain to locate neutral but to no avail.
The bike doesnt yet have a battery fitted so the neutral indicator light doesn't come on to help me.
Please can someone tell me way the gearing goes. E.g do you go up for first gear or down say one up and four down or one down and four up.
Many thanks,
Neale Robertson

Down for first, up for 2345. Neutral is between 1st & 2nd, rock the bike back and forth as you move the shifter, DO NOT stomp on it like I have seen some people do. Once it gets to where it won't shift down any more & lift the shifter gently until you feel the click into neutral.
