More often the rattle is slop in the timing chain from a poor sync of the carbs, but it could be a bearing in the clutch or the clutch basket being worn a little. Try syncing the carbs first as it’s least invasive.

The worn clutch basket is annoying but isn’t likely to go for many miles. I’m not sure if the rear bearing is accessible on the 1100’s or not, but 1200’s are. I replaced mine on a 1200 and it didn’t stop the noise. Tore it down later and the basket was worn a bit.

Another item that causes rear cover noise is a loose rotor bolt on the stator. I think that would make noise all the time though. Always turn it clockwise.
