Hey everyone!

I just registered and thought I'd introduce myself. My son and I are working to restore a 1981 GL1100 so I KNOW I will have a lot of questions along the way. Mechanically the bike is in good condition but it's a bit of a mess cosmetically. It came with a Vetter fairing and bags which we have removed. We're now working to get the headlight and front turn signals set up so it will be street-legal. Then the long job of clean-up begins. We also purchased a seat cover that we hope will return the seat to looking as close to stock as possible. Below is a "before" picture.

The bike looks pretty good as per the picture.

Have fun making it all pretty again - but don't forget to ride it :)

Welcome.

I also removed the Vetter front from an 83.

Leave the rear bags and frame. They will come in handy. With bags removed it looks near normal.

The 81 has a relatively high rpm in topgear as it was built for the 55 mph speed limits. The sweet spot is near 60 mph. The most likely problems you may encounter are well discussed on this site.
