Rear Wheel Alignment

Post by twerth » Sun Apr 15, 2018 10:56 am

I have an '81 GL1100 I'm trying to put back on the road, and I noticed something strange the other day. Looking at the bike from the back, the rear wheel is offset about an inch to the left. I can't find any indication of tweaking to the frame or swing arm. Everything else seems to line up, and the wheel spins freely. Is this normal? It looks goofy.

It may be just an optical illusion. If it fits up to the final drive and has the spacer between the brake bracket and the wheel it almost has to be right. There is not enough room for the wheel to be an inch off in the swing arm and not enough room for the swing arm to be offset that much.

Thanks for the quick response Dave. It's no illusion. I've got a couple of pictures it shows up well in, but evidently I don't have enough posts to attach them yet.

Check a parts fiche for the pieces that shoudl be there and see if youi have them all..the spacer is the piece that could change things.

Yes, I understand how it works. I'm able to post the same photos to other websites, but this one doesn't like me. I get a caution sign under "Status" next to the file name, but no explanation of what the problem is.
