Carb problems (fuel filter, stablizer?)

Post by TR6 » Wed Apr 18, 2018 4:17 am

Hello friends,

I think it's better I explain my situation:
My GL is running well, starts very good at cold or warm motor, the carbs are synced very well, but I have since this year this situation:
At full throttle, it seams between 5.500 and 7.000 there are 20 - 30 PS missed, then, from 7.000 to 8.000 a good boost is comming.
It seems, a jet is clogged for the special speed range or something.

At my other bike, a Honda Magna V45 1984, is a similar problem, but extremly bad:
The bike is starting only with full choke, only at full choke and until 1800 rpm (only full choke). More throttle, the motor is going out, to much air. It seems, all carbs are clogged. But I cleaned the carbs two years ago, the Magna was running well as my GoldWing.

At both bikes, I used the same new fuel filter AND used Bactofin (gas stabilizer) for winter time.
Can it be, that the fuel filter is corroding and clogged the jets or Bactofin is the malfactor?

Who has experience with such problems?

Best regards,
Stefan

If this turns out to be a fuel filter, order one from Randakk. Mine cost around $20 and can be cleaned over and over. Great design. Also, most of these older bikes do well adding a few ounces of transmission fluid per gas fill-up. Helps lubricate and keep your carbs clean. I do it every time and have now started using no alcohol fuel which I find just down the street from me now at a new gas station. It is 91 octane and I've heard that that is a little strong. Not sure. Keep us updated.

Hi friends,

I found it. The fuel pump is the bad boy. When the tank is full filled, the carbs get enough gaz and a little static pressure is in the system.
When the tank is low, there is not enough pressure for speedup.
A new pump is on the way.

Best regards,
Stefan
