Oil leak around clutch lever on motor

Post by cowboy450 » Wed May 02, 2018 3:50 pm

Oil level is fine, half way up the sight glass on 81 1100. When the motor is running oil leaks around the clutch lever on motor. I remember reading years back about this problem but search hasn't found anything. As I remember there is a passage to allow excess oil to drain back to the front of the motor. Someone at the time had come up with measurements to drill a small hole and clear the passage. I don't remember there being a separate pump but I can't remember for sure. Any help? Thanks.

I did that and someone else did that, years ago. I looked but can't find the pictures showing where to drill. There is a scavenger pump in the clutch housing and it should keep the oil pumped out, obviously yours isn't.

This motor is on a hardtail bobber I have been building for years. This leak just started suddenly so I guess I might as well bite the bullet and pull the motor and replace the scavenger pump.

Ok, just pulled the pump off a 83 motor. There is no passage of any type to plug up. If you have the problem I am it can only be the scavenge pump.

Yes there is, a small odd shaped hole in the bottom of the pump.

Yes but it can only drain oil when the pump is working. I was under the impression there was a hole in the case also to drain oil. Drilling a hole would be useless.
