Starter motor problem

Post by Robbie1968 » Sat May 19, 2018 6:00 am

Hi guys rebuilt my gl1100 starter motor which was not turning at all. I have tried bench testing it, but it only turns very slowly and then stops altogether. Generates quite a bit of heat in the connection.
It turns smoothly and easy by hand and all the parts look ok inside, brushes etc. Is it time for a new one ?

Thanks for the help

How about some pics of the brushes & commutator?
They say 98% of all Hardleys ever made are still on the road..... The other 2% made it home.
(I stole this from somebody on another GW site...)
