Searching for a Rear Brake Master Cylinder
Hello,
Well, my 83 Aspy finally gave out, on it's brakes, or what was left of them. Bought 2 repair kits from K and L, for the rear caliper, and the rear brake. Well, cut a long story short, I need another rear brake kit. The cylinder itself is pitted at both ends, and tearing up seals and sucking air.
So..I know and appreciate these things are incredibly hard to find in any condition. If anyone has one that holds pressure, and works, I'm interested.
Many thanks
Jaime

Re: Searching for a Rear Brake Master Cylinder
Cosmo,
Thanks for the help. What I'm after specifically, is the rear master cylinder housing itself, and the main push rod. Everything else, I have, or can get hold of.
I'm up at Ohio bike week at the moment, so if you can help, I'll reply as quickly as I can. But thank you.
If I've missed details, let me know.
Thanks
Jaime

Goldskooler,
Bellefontaine? Holy cow, I grew up there!
If Cosmo doesn't have a useable one then I'll see what I've got. Hope your bike week outing goes well.

Re: Searching for a Rear Brake Master Cylinder
Morning folks,
Bike week was very good, however it is a giant Harley Fest for the most part. We rode up there, with a few friends. One of my friends, has a chopper with a 76 500T Honda engine. And the rear wheel he used, is the type that has a 2.5” circlip to hold the whole thing together. Well that collapsed on the way up.
Cut a long story short, we ended up going through a junk yard, that had trees growing through some frames. “Bike 101” was the place, guy called Randy. We cobbled something together, and while I was there, I looked through the Goldwing shelves / shed. Not a damn thing with master cylinders..gahhh
Anyway, I’m rambling. If anyone does have a body and stem for my Aspencade, it’s still needed.
KL kit 32-4272 has already arrived. I’ll be up at AMA vintage days in July, probably searching (along with others) for this elusive part.

Sorry I've been slow. Had my daughter's Camry to repair/restore. It had electronic transmission issues, now resolved.

Re: Searching for a Rear Brake Master Cylinder
Mines not looking too good. Looks like the backing plate will have to be cut/ground in order to get the circlip out. Once the piston is freed I'll be able to better assess its condition.

Re: Searching for a Rear Brake Master Cylinder
It's possible you may be able to send out the master cylinder for resleeving of the bore with stainless steel inserts. This is done to older Corvette brake calipers to fix the same problem; i.e., pitted bores. . Master cylinders can also be resleeved to maintain originality.
A good machine shop should be able to handle this kind of work, as well.

Re: Searching for a Rear Brake Master Cylinder
Its an option, I'm leaning more towards actually. Didn't realise how impossible this part, is to find. I've got a few leads, and then I'm looking at alternatives, such as re sleeving.
It will be a runner, just a question of patience. Thanks for everyone's advice over this issue.

Got the parts bike stripped. Rear master looks bad, though I've not tried everything i know to bring it back.

Re: Searching for a Rear Brake Master Cylinder
Worked on the rear master for a couple hours today. Brought it back, wasn't as bad as it looked.
So, it's a good master, all good internals, bit of rust on the pushrod and a 5mm tear on the boot. Otherwise, it works as it should.
$50 plus shipping.
