Digital ambient temp guage on 83 interstate

Post by Northern wing » Sat Jun 02, 2018 11:18 pm

I have an 83 Interstate with the digital volt meter and ambient temp gauge duo at the base of the windshield. The volt meter works fine but the temp gauge always read -10 f. Is there any kind of fix for this. I have searched for digital ambient temp gauge on the forum but can't find anything for the '83, only much newer units. Thanks

I had a look at the circuit diagram for the 83, and I'm not seeing a thermistor anywhere. My best suggestion would be to follow all the wires out of it and see if you can find wires that go from the thermometer module to a thermistor somewhere (likely somewhere where outside air is going to hit it, away from engine heat). Chances are either that the thermistor needs to be replaced, or there may be a break in that wire (or bad connector).
