Starter reduction gears

Post by arnoldsq » Mon Jun 04, 2018 11:52 pm

I have a starter here that the entire back half looks good on. But we all know looks can be deceiving. The shaft would not move at all which is why I opened it up. Multiple teeth on the reduction gears are sheared off which then lodged and stopped all movement. I have already ordered a new starter, but does anyone know if there is a part number for the reduction gears to rebuild as a backup?

Nope but I have some shorted out starters that I would be willing to steal the gears from,..OEm metal not the plastic Chinese ones..yes some of the aftermarket starters actually had plastic gears.. say $15 plus shipping.

I cant believe they would put plastic in there. I wonder if that is what was in this one or not. I got the bike after it sat for 10 years and I think the previous own spent a lot of time on the starter trying to break over the motor. I have carbs to clean and putting the tank back in and it should be up and running.

Ill send a private message with my email so we can set that up.

Figured I’d share the fun I found in the carbs. I’m going to need some more cleaner
