alternative starter

Post by eylonsa » Wed Aug 01, 2018 12:08 pm

Hi y'll, my starter is officially dead. so i wonder if the starters that can be found in ebay (like this one https://m.ebay.com/itm/Starter-For-Hond ... =R40&rt=nc) would be OK...
and another thing, in case the new starter shaft won't fit the original sprocket inside motor case, is there a quick and easy way to take the old sprocket out and put a new one in?

thank you in advance

If you could find a permanent magnet starter, much better. I searched ebay and did not find one.
Just reach in and lift the sprocket out & set the new one in the chain. Be careful to put it in the right way, same as the old one came out.

I've heard of problems with the new sprocket not fitting the chain and the original sprocket not fitting the "replacement" starter.
I've also heard in this case that the whole gearhead from the original starter was attached to the "replacement" starter motor housing.
It's always better to get a OEM starter..
Or just park on a hill. :D

Thank u so much.
As i live in Israel its a problem for me to buy stuff from scrap yards cos usually they do nit offer international shipping (if they offer shipping at all...). in Israel no one offers a starter for sale (small community...) so the only solution is ordering from ebay, and even there i did not find to many OEM starters and end up with the ho-so-tempting Chinese alternatives... problem is, i don't know if they worth somthing at all... 😕
