Neutral light question

Post by RodL »

Well now that I have the starter replaced after tipping my bike over on the right side, I have an annoyance that I would like to get help with. Now every time I pull in my clutch lever, my neutral light comes on. Everything works ok, but it isn't right and I would like to get it fixed. It is one of those distractions that you really do not need when riding, having that green light come on every time you pull in the clutch lever!

You need to replace the diode.
I believe they call it a rectifier.

It's #1 in that diagram.

Been a while since I had my GL1100....remove false tank. Feel for a taped bulge in the main harness, about a one inch rectangle shape on the left hand side. If my memory serves me that is. Still available from Honda too.

Expect an expert to respond in 3, 2, 1....

Earl is correct.

The diode is located inside the tape from mother Honda. It is on the left side about 2 inches in, behind the regulator.

Well I think I found the diode, at least my fingers found a small block about where it should be. The only thing is that to replace it I will need to pull the air box out. I tried to pull it out, but it doesn't seem to want to move. There are 2 bolts down inside under the filter, but when I loosened them up, no change. What am I doing wrong??

There are 2 hoses connected to the air box. Both toward the rear of the box. Pull those off and the air box should pull right out.
Pictures would help us help you.

I think simply slicing the tape carefully away from the diode will free it. It is attached to a connector but not secured in any other way except taped.
