Tacho cable too long?

Hi Folks.

I've often thought the tach cable on my 1100 is a bit long - ie it makes a tight curve underneath the tacho itself.
Doesn't matter how I position the cable as it always ends up with a tight curve somewhere.

Obviously not a critical thing but it has that cramped look that makes you say: "hmmm - needs to be an inch shorter".

Anyone else noticed this, or am I being a bit OCD?

All years for GL1100's used the same cable (Honda number 37260-463-000) so it can't be from the wrong year GL1100. That could only leave the possibility of an aftermarket cable, or it's still not routed correctly under the shelter. I don't have a spare Honda cable here to measure, but if someone has a OEM Honda cable they could check it and give you the measurement so you could compare it to yours. Snap a picture of the spot you think is too tight and post it here. Maybe you'll find it's actually no different than any other GL1100 Standard.

Hi hondog.

First pic shows cable path taking a deep loop forwards then back up into tach.
The cable has to go forward of the lower triple clamp, meaning it gets moved with the forks.

If I push the cable back over the motor it just loops more tightly there.
Maybe I'm being too picky, but IMHO cables should have a natural, flowing look from end to end.
Means minimum chafing or binding.

Second pic shows what I think is a more natural path.
This path also places the cable next to the steering head where it never gets moved by the forks.

AFAIK, this is the original cable. 40-something inches long. How many other bikes have tach cables this long ...
I'm aware also the cable is unchanged across all model years, which adds to my intrigue, in that fitting a too-long cable seems out of character for Honda.
