Bad accelerator pump= hesitation on acceleration.
Bad air cutoffs= backfiring on deceleration & or bad idle.
Sticky slides= either won't rev very high if they are stuck closed (down) or runs way too rich except at idle or wide open if stuck open (up).

Thank you for this clarification. I have not rebuilt my carbs so for because the engine runs fine, but the questions linger in my mind. Maybe I’m just thinking ahead to a winter project. I run Stabil ever tank and have used Sea Foam twice plus I upgrade to braided fuel lines and washable filter, so the ‘fluid’ part seems to fine. The mechanical parts remain original.

So my next question is related to quantity of problems. I imagine I would hear the back fire caused by a single bad cutoff valve, but would I notice a single bad accelerator pump or would more than one have to be bad before I notice. Same question for the sticky slides.

Thanks again.

You will definitely notice one bad accelerator pump since there is only one at the #3 carb.

Oh, well, I guess I would then!

I'll stop considering problems that just don't exist! ;)

Thanks to all of you for the help. :)
