GL1100 One caliper piston stuck

Post by Pellet44 »

I got an 82 Gl1100 Aspencade all in pieces and the front right caliper has one piston stuck.the other piston has been removed when i got it.
Any ideas how to get it out?

Yup did that...Put the piston back in...put the brake pad back on..both of them..Hook it up to the brake line...add brake fluid and pump away...It will push the loose piston out first till it stops on the brake pad then it will push the other piston out..You will have to bleed the air out and will have a lot of brake fluid to catch in your bucket.

By the way...test fit each piston before you put the seal ring back in.It should easily be pushed to the bottom of the caliper and removed easily...NOTE:::
Do clean the crusty white oxidation from under the piston seal..in the bottom of the groove...
When your done ..with some brake fluid coating all the innards..you should be able to push the piston back into place with just 2 thumb pressures.

If the above does not work.
Put the pad back in and :
Use compressed air to get it out.

and as a last resort use a grease gun to push both pistons out.

If you use air, stuff a rag over the Piston so it doesn't go flying across the shop
