So rebuilding the carbs on my 81.
I cannot seem to get the idle jets to come out.
They are pressed in and I did the sheetmetal screw trick but they will not budge.
Bike wont idle without choke. I need to clean those things.
Any tips? Confidence builders? I was pressing that thing to screw in after it got tight and pulling on that screw as hard as I can.
What if I break one? Are they replaceable?
Other options?

They can be tough..but that's your only hope..pull/wiggle..don't use carb cleaner it swells the o rings..I forget if with the bowls off you can see the idle jet's other end..maybe punch it out??or at least loosen it a bit to pull on the screw again?
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83

Re: Carb slow jets
do you have access to an UltraSonic cleaner?
the better ones have a heater in them.
put the carbs in a bath of vinegar and let the UltraSonic cleaner run for a few hours.
it can perform miracles....

They will come out. You have to put the screw in tight and I use side cutters to grip the screw and lever against the main jet tower, I doubt anyone is strong enough to just pull them straight out.

Re: Carb slow jets
ok guys. Got them out.
Needed that boost of confidence that I wasn't missing something.
What I did was find a coarse drywall screw. Put it in as far as I thought was needed. I had a lot of confidence after the other screw and extractor was in there....
Then I used a block of wood to form a wedge so the side cutters were leveraged.
Then I put all 200# on the end of the side cutters and kinda jumped...
I mean it took a lot. Screw popped a couple times, but all four are out within 20 minutes or less.
Thanks.
1. CLR on these things?
2. A wire should pass through? (I mean if so, how did this thing run a week ago?)
