CARB SYNC CHALLENGE - 82 GL110i

Post by OTTERCOMET »

This is a project bike - when I bought it it didn't run. Replaced timing belts, completed rebuild of carbs (Randakk's kit) and did a bunch of other stuff that was not engine related but needed doing if I eventually get to the point of a safety inspection to get plates.
Machine now starts easily - almost as soon as I hit the starter button and runs well - can't road test it yet - need new rubber - so I don't know how it would react under load.
I have to play with the choke a bit until it starts to warm up and once it does it idles at 1000.
Purchased the Motion Pro sync adapters.
I am using a single vacuum gauge ( same one as WingAdmin uses in his how to DIY for carb sync).
Synced 1 and 3 at 49-50
Synced 2 and 4 at 19 - 20
No matter what I do with the sync screw on 4, I cannot get it past 20.
Ran a dry compression test 1 & 3 are at 100 psi - 2 and 4 are at 120. not bad for a 36 year old bike with 94K kilometers (Canadian EH!!)
When I pulled the plugs, 1 & 3 are a bit wet but no deposits - 2 and 4 are clean and dry.
I made plugs for the sync adapters using pieces of hose and filling one end with silicone. With all 4 adapters plugged it idles fine. As soon as I remove one plug (to install the gauge) it starts to falter - as soon as the gauge is on, it levels out. I mention this as I think if there were a vacuum leak, it would not run as smoothly.
Anyone got any magic solutions to my sync challenge?

Those numbers are low run the bike for awhile and see if the compression improves..sticky rings my guess.then try to synch. Won't hurt anything synch is just for a smooth idle
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,

Recheck the cam timing. If one is a tooth off it can make the vacuum way out of whack.
