Runninglights in the turnsignals

Post by J Runge »

Hi fellow Wingers
The dimmed light in the turnsignals, while running, what is that called. Here in Denmark we call it US - or California lights.

The reason i ask, is because I have been fiddeling a bit with wiring diagrams and the bike, and I sadly learned, that in the turnswitch on my GL, there is a "switch" missing. The mechanism that cuts the current to the runninglight while indicating.

Is it posible to buy Parts for the switch, or must I find a used switch??

My best
Jacob

Is it your intention to turn off the "running/park" lamp when the turn signal is blinking?
And yes..it is a function of the switch but there may be a idea..
If you want the park lamp to go off at the moment the turn signal flashes use a small relay to switch that lamp off.The relay would be operated by the turn signal wire.
Obviously a relay would be needed for each lamp and the park lamp would only be turned off when the turn signal flashes on.

That was my initial idea, but the relay comes before the switch, oo the indicator would alternate between sharp and dimmed if I did it that way. In the American switch, there is at build in funktion, wich cuts the current to the running/park lights

This is correct.
To keep the dim lamp off while flashing you would have to move the "flasher/relay/blinker thing" to the other side of the switch..Then add another "flasher" to the other turn signal wire.
One "flasher" for each side..The switch could then operate the dim lamp cutoff relays for each side... and the "flasher"
Lots of rewiring...2 relays and 2 flashers.

Exactly.Keep in mind that #87 will need to be the wire from the turn signal switch and not the wire going into the lamp.Just so it will connect to the rear lamp.
Your method is good.

You can also power the switch by removing the original flasher and jumping the power wire to the switch wire right at the plug.Leave the green unhooked.

Follow the wire from the switch..You will find that it is also connected to the rear lamp and indicator lamp. You need to wire your relay and flasher before these connections.
If you wire it direct to the lamp only that lamp will flash.
