Starting over on my GL1100

Good evening fellow wingers! Well, I had my bike running then decided to pull the gas tank, change timing belts, and general maintenance. I just hope I can get it back together again! The tank was a **** to get out but I put it back tonight and it worked like a dream! Going to attach some pics of the "bones".

Anyway I got some of it back together tonight and it went smooth as butter
Still cant figure out why the choke wont work. The cable pulls the choke hardware ok but the choke valves wont close. Its driving me crazy cuz I cant figure it out. Any suggestions folks?

Got the choke figured out. Turns out the choke was stuck and I was able to get it moving. I decided to just remove the carbs again and clean them again. I was surprised at all the junk in the carbs. A more extensive cleaning this time.

Hi all. I got the carbs boiled out and clean
But the choke on the right side is still hanging up. It looks like the shafts from the carbs may be bent or out of place. Is there anyway to fix that issue?

Just a short update since it has been a while. I removed the gas tank and got that nice and clean. I also ordered randaks petcock repair kit and got the petcock fixed. No more leak! O also am almost done with the side covers. Just have to shoot them with clear coat to protect the new paint and badges. Going to rebuild the brake calipers here shortly as soon as the parts come. Something to keep my mind off winter anyway. Pics coming shortly!

Good morning! Thought I would update my post about the GL1100. Making progress and thought I would share some pics.

I painted the tank shelter and side covers and added new graphics. I am pretty happy with the results! I figure to let the paint cure for another week or two then put on the wax. For using a rattle can, they look pretty darn good!

Hoping to get out in the garage today and get the valves adjusted and the carbs synced. On to the brakes then and I might repaint the front fender as well. That is up in the air right now. My throttle cable is hanging up some to so I need to figure that out. I am thinking the return cable may be the culprit.

Looks fantastic. :D That's a lot of work you've done. I enjoy doing this kinda stuff when the season for riding is at a pause. Sounds like you are enjoying this project. Having fun keeps those pesky frustrations that can pop up, not so hard to bare.

Thanks for keeping us posted and for the pictures. Pictures always cool. 8-)

Posting a pic of how my wing looks now. I am pretty happy with how good it is turning out. I am thinking about ditching the ugly vetter fairing and going with a new headlight and windshield. Have a great night all. Be safe!

Great job. The Vetter may not be as attractive to some as a Hondaline. But they do keep a lot of the weather off of you while riding in cold or rainy conditions. And helps keep some of the wind from pounding you on those long rides. Just something to keep in mind. Thanks for the picture. And as much as I prefer the Honda fairing, the Vetter in this pic looks nice.

Naked Wings are nice, but I wouldn't want to do any great distance on one :( Too old for all that wind. Since I don't have Hondaline, I'll keep the Windjammer on mine... :) .... And GF likes the backrest on the Vetter Trunk.

Both of you guys made a great point. The fairing stays for now. I have to admit it is much more pleasant to ride when the wind isn't beating you up.

I haven't seen a lot of the Vetter fairings (only one in person) but Denver, your bike looks great too! :D

I couldn't imagine a passenger going on a long trip without a backrest. :o

In the olden days back in high school when I would give a lady (girl) a ride on my really cool Suzuki Enduro 250, I didn't mind them having to hold onto my waist for dear life to stay on. But I'd rather us both be safe and comfortable now. No longer am I, or do I think I am, bullet proof. :oops:

If you are talking about my Avatar photo, that's the 1500 :D

Here's a photo of the 1100 from back in '09 when I had the full Vetter set on it, note the bugs on the windshield. I'd just finished an "Iron-Butt" ride (1250 miles, 22 hrs) straight thru from Denver to Jackson MI.

In 2010 I bought the camper trailer, and took off the Vetter trunk and saddlebag set and replaced with the saddlebag cage from an 1100 interstate since it had the trailer hitch. Adapted the Vetter trunk to the Interstate rear end.

Now that I have the 1500 too, the trailer hitch is no longer needed on the 1100 and I put it back to full Vetter. Added speaker cabinets to the Vetter trunk and a 60 watt amp for the stereo. Don't have a picture of the current setup yet.
