Oil under left front carby

Post by grandalf »

Hi there, im suddenly experiencing after the days ride, oil and quite alot at times, under the left front carby bowl. (externally sitting on bottom of it).
Is this to do with my rings/valves possibly? its not happening under other carbys tho. rather odd how this could get there tho.
mm, im wondering has this happened to anyone else. It does use a bit of oil nowdays, and this was something i was doing sooner than later.
I cant see any oil leaking from motor case either. Could it be coming thu airbox causing this on these models when its got old?
thx

Is it actually on the bowl or under it on top of the case?

The oil is on the bottom of the bowl on the underneath of it. Not on the case no. Sometimes i have had fuel there as well.

Is your oil breather hose hooked up to your airbox? If it is loose that may leave oil there. Just a guess.

I think it's probably a fuel leak, just a seep and it dries up and looks like oil. Nothing else makes sense.

Thx for the replies. ive now pulled the goldwing apart to do rings and valves heads most other things its almost all back together massive effort :) , yes i took all your suggestions, most likely maybe it was old fuel, but it sure smelt like oil. Yeah, every day it appeared after you wiped it off the previous day. really odd. ill see how i go after its back in the bike. As well as this, in the last week, apart from it burning all the oil in 3 days flat, oil went up into the coolent bottle nasty it was like a swamp of oil.

That's not good. What does the oil look like - is it murky?

Oil can get into the coolant one of two ways: either a problem with a head gasket, or a problem with a seal in the water pump.

Yes it was murky like a swamp, i have replaced both the headgaskets and also the waterpump seal too. I guess hopefully now this has gone away. First day back on the road today, so ill see how i go.
