ignition lock/luggage lock

Post by winguyjo »

the 1980 that i am resurrecting came with NO keys.
i have the ignition lock removed and will be bringing it to a locksmith.
i am pretty sure that i read somewhere here that the luggage locks use 1 less wafer than the ignition.
will the key that he makes me for the ignition also work on the luggage (assuming of course that all the locks are original) ?

On my 82gl1100i the ignition key works on the tourpak mount locks as well. make sure when you are unlocking it to press down on the tourpak a little, works easier.
man can't live on air alone!

On all the locks there is a code.

The hardest part in taking it to a locksmith is they do not have the blank key.

Here is a link to a cheaper way to get the key you need.

whoa ! $5.50 each including shipping ?!?!?!?
a local locksmith will barely say "hello" for that kind of money.
i guess i'll give it a shot ... this bike ain't going to be ridden until late april now anyways.
thanks.

here in canada we are dealing with a contract dispute at the post office, so rather than order online i decided to go ahead with a local locksmith for this issue and i was pleasantly surprised to have him charge only $17 plus tax to cut this key from code. even better, the key that he made fits every lock on the bike !
curiously though, he wanted to also charge $17 for each additional copy.
i think i will order all the copies i need from the guy in that link ... after the postal troubles are settled.
