Years vs serial numbers

Post by bruce swaybill »

I have an 83 GW which has a two wire neutral switch- neutral and overdrive. My OD light has never worked. The bulb will light when 12V is applied with jumper wires. I found a used replacement switch on eBay and I plan to include the water pump and hoses in this job.

I traced the wire harness to a one wire connector. It should have a two wire connector. Now wondering if the switch was replaced with an 82 unit by a PO. Or .... is this NOT an 83 engine in my 83 bike?

Is there an available list of VIN range vs year and engine number range vs year?
Any info will help to solve this little mystery...

Thanks.
Bruce S.

Thanks for the link.

According to that list, I do have an 82 engine in my 83 bike!

I should (!) be able to find the OD wire to make the 83 neutral/OD switch work. Crossing my fingers....
