1983 GL1100A - driver foot pegs

Post by Baitweller »

Hello all,
I hate the floorboards and heel/toe shifter so I bought a set of driver footpegs on Ebay. Question: It looks like the reach from the left peg to the shifter will be a loooong way. I say "will be" because I don't have the brackets and pegs yet to test fit but looking at the distance it seems like the shifter arm needs to be longer. Are there 2 different lengths if you have floorboards or foot pegs?

Thank you all and Merry Christmas,

I hated the boards on my 83 Aspy as well. When I removed them the shifter stayed in place as the heal/ toe piece was merely clamped over the shifter lever. I don't think you will find the lever location a problem unless someone has at one time replaced or modified the stock one and this assumes that you get what you were looking for when you ordered pegs of an 1100. The ones on the 83 have wider/flatter rubber pad but really any year gl1100 peg will work. Mine were off an 81 and a huge improvement IMHO over the boards. Made shifting and brake operation way more positive.

Thank you Joneszy, good to know that the stock shifter will work. I just don't see how the heel/toe shifter crammed between the left cylinder heads, the crash bar and the floor board ever worked unless you have a size 5 shoe.
