What bike are we talking about?

Take the battery cables off the battery. Take the hot wire off the starter. Be careful not to twist the post. Take the 2 bolts out and remove the starter.

You need to be careful and make sure 5th he bike is on its side stand when you take the starter out. Otherwise the chain on the starter gear will fall back into the case. If that happens you probably would have to pull the engine to finish the job. Mostly just take your time and find the article on this site and read it. Awesome information. Good luck!
