83 HONDA GL1100A ASPENCADE leak under front OIL PAN TRANSMISSION COVER

Post by grandalf » Fri Feb 22, 2019 7:33 pm

Ok ive finally got bike back together, and now after running it for 1 days ride, and leaving over night, there is oil coming from both the bottom under the front OIL PAN TRANSMISSION COVER seal and also stangly enough, the little hole under towards the front of that cover under the waterpump connection there. Do you think i need to either reseal the TRANSMISSION COVER seal again and what is the little hole under the waterpump on the housing there used for? Note: I did originally as with the rest gaskets put sealant on them. Odd it has leaked there.

The hole is a "Weep" hole for the water pump. If the front seal is leaking you'll have coolant leaking from the hole...if the rear seal is leaking you'll have oil from the engine leaking.

Ok thanks for that. I guess yes then I'll replace the rear oil seal. Great.

If you water pump has a Bakelite impeller it's still the original waterpump. Might be a good time to just replace it. You'll need to pull that front cover & get a full gasket set so if that cover is leaking you'll kill two birds with one stone. A new pump and gasket set will run about $175 or so. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=275
