Another "What part is this?"

Post by OldguyGlen » Wed Mar 13, 2019 4:49 pm

Bike is going back together ('80 GL1100). Was in a million pieces, but I thought I had them all organized in dozens of tupperware tubs.
But I came up with an "orphan" part... where does it belong?? I found this part left over after I re-assembled the front master cylinder, but I can't swear if it belonged in that tub anyway. I then suspected it came off some handlebar assembly... switch, lever, etc. But I coudln't find a home for it there either. It looks like some kind of retainer pin... holds some other part from falling out of place.
Hope one of you guys will recognize it right away... take a guess if you're not sure... I'll follow up all suggestions.
Thanks.

Mystery part... carbs, brakes, switches, ????

It looks like a quarter. You can put them in a parking meter.

The bolt does not belong to a gl1100.

I agree with Wilcoy, I have had every part of an 1100 in my hand and don't remember that one.

Well, now I am totally confused.
Our parking meters don't take coins anymore, the screw doesn't belong to the GL1100... so I guess I'll have to look for a new useful purpose for the washer.
I can't figure out how it ended up in the basket for the front master cylinder??
I am mentally reviewing any other tasks that had me dismantling stuff in my shop... not coming up with any prospects. If I toss it, its original purpose will surface immediately & I'll never find a replacement. But if I save it, I surely will never have a need for it. Yet another mystery of life....

I would keep it, I always strip the hardware off from just about anything that I will toss away.
There's always the chance of it saving a trip to the hardware store.
Then again you know what you have/dont have.

Ya it looks specific for something and I have no idea what but keep it

On many long journeys have I gone. And waited, too, for others to return from journeys of their own. Some return; some are broken; some come back so different only their names remain.
