82 gl 1100 aspencade. Where are the ignition coils located? How might I test them? They are 37 years old.

Thanks in advance. You guys are very helpful.

They are about 7 inches to the left of your favorite part the radiator cap and under the fuse box. Are you having ignition problems of some sort?

I am investigating reasons for poor fuel mileage. Last tank was 34 mpg. I have recently gotten it running well, but can't account for poor mpg. Coils are old, thought I should check them.

Try a coil from a 96 neon. It will wire right up and sparks hot. Regards, Johnny

Thanks for the help. The Neon coil idea is a good one. I discovered my right front brake caliper was sticking, was braking all the time, so that will be fixed first, maybe that will help the mileage.
Is there a way to test the coil without taking off the fake tank? It's not impossible, but the air shock control requires a lot of disassembly.
