pilot screw setting ...what year carbs do i have ?

in the final stages of re-assembling a set of carbs that i got off craigslist.
for initial pilot screw setting the FSM says 1 1/4 turn out for 1980 - 1981, 3 turns out for 1982 (doesn't mention 1983 even though my manual is for 80-83).
problem is, i cant recall the year of the parts bike that i pulled these carbs from.
any way to tell ?

DOH ! just realized that i still have the frame ... it's a 1982.
the question is still valid though ... without a frame or engine as a reference, is there a way to tell what year carbs one has ?
