O-ring between oil drain plug and washer?

Post by jeremysmith035 »

Is there an o-ring between the oil drain plug and crush washer?
When I removed the oil drain plug for the first time since owning the bike I noticed an o-ring between the drain plug and crush washer. I didn't think it was supposed to be there so, and it was almost completely deteriorated so I didn't reinstall it when putting the plug and crush washer back on, now oil is leaking from the drain plug. Is there supposed be an o-ring there? I am guessing I just need to replace my crush washer, and am aware the washer should be replaced every time. But now I am curious about the o-ring I seen.

No o-ring was originally fitted from Honda on your drain plug.

I figured out why there was an o-ring. Turns out the previous owner stripped out the oil drain plug hole. They used an oversized drain plug with an o-ring to minimize leaking from the drain plug.

Time for a helicoil or timesert. Last thing you want is for that thing to start gushing oil while riding, especially because on the 1100 it will drop oil right in front of your rear tire. That would get exciting.
