Rear brake fluid leaking from pump

Post by imadamine »

I noticed braking fluid leaking from the center of my GL 1100 81 interstate. I had look underneath it and noticed the fluid is leaking from seal where the screw squeeze it. Any suggestion what to do?should I buy a rebuild kit or change the whole thing.

I thnk you're talking about the banjo bolt and brake line fitting? If so, no need to rebuild or replace it...just replace the copper crush washer, which is what provides the seal. You can get them at a local auto parts store for a few cents each.

You can see it here as the banjo bolt is being removed:

Actually the screw is the one attached to the brake lever so I think apply the brake it causes leakages.

The pivot screw (the one holding the lever in place) is nowhere near any kind of brake fluid. The only thing it does is hold the lever in place. If you are seeing brake fluid on that screw, then it is most likely leaking from the piston seal, in which case that master cylinder DOES need to be rebuilt.

Thats the thing I think I was asking about so I need to buy the rebuild kit of seals and springs and rebuild it.

Here's what you'll need: How to rebuild your front master cylinder
