83 GL1100A Wiring

Post by NicholasG »

Hello friends,

I am hoping someone can help me out here. I’ve got so much wiring problems on an 83 GL1100A Aspencade. A previous owner did a hatchet job of the wiring and some of which was easy to fix. However now I am left with some sort of kill switch to kill power to all the tach. The bike can start without the key in the on position so long as the kill switch is on. I’ve traced many wires and yet to find the issue. The bike was upgraded from a four carb sytsem to a single large carb. I’ve looked over the ignition wiring and cannot see anything cut or spliced. If anymore information is needed I can provide more.

Looking forward to the responses.

Upgraded huh?
Try unplugging the ignition switch, if the power goes away it's probably the switch. Bad news on an 83 aspy because they are a 1 year only, good news is a switch from a ST1100 will fit.

I am unable to find where the plug is, I have searched everywhere, but alas Connor find it. I still have the fairing on. Any help locating it would be greatly appreciated.

It is at the bottom of the ignition switch.
