Possibly disturbed a coil connection. Easily done when removing/refitting the air filter.

Not much on these old girls that can go wrong like that....

Check the fuses - These old glass fuses can go bad without blowing, the fuse element becomes detached at one end. Check for voltage at the coils...

Problem fixed! I know about troubleshooting and the meaning of the KISS, this time I blew both.. Being a newbie to the world of wings I missed the on/off switch on the handlebar. These wings will not start if the switch is in the off position. Guess I will have to slow down and have a cup of coffee and think about the rest of the problems with this bike. The good part of this is after it started it really smoked (white) then when warm it quit smoking. At least now I know that there is no MAJOR problems with the engine. Just have to do all four shocks, brakes, final drive, replace both tires (they are 22 years old and bald),test the fan (it never came on) and good chance I will have to replace the water pump. Thanks for the ideas on problem, it got me back into the right line of trouble shooting.

I was going to mention the kill switch but you said "no spark with the ignition switch on and the other switch in run" so I figured you'd already checked the "Off-Run-Off" switch to be in the "Run" position.... :D

Sometimes we overlook the obvious!
