Where to find rear caliper for 83 GL-1100

Post by jeremysmith035 »

Does anyone know where I can find a rear brake caliper for a 1983 GL-1100i. Unfortunately, to my knowledge (I could be wrong) 1983 was a different size caliper than 1980-1982. I am looking for a very good condition rear caliper and front right caliper (not a rebuild kit). Any suggestions of where I could find this? I care most about the rear caliper.

The front left caliper is available on eBay. The rear caliper is what I wanted to replace, and if someone knew where to find a rear I figured they may have a front right as well (might as well do both if I could find the parts). A rebuild kit would work but I'd rather find the whole caliper in better condition if I could. They are out there, however finding it in very good condition is the real challenge.

LOL, your right about Bob's in Phoenix. I went there once with a friend of mine and I tried to walk thru the back, it was like walking thru a landfill. Thousands of bikes, parts of bike, trailer loads of bike engine and parts. If you can't find it there, you won't find it ANYWHERE.

Here is a link to his website.....https://bobsmotorcycleparts.com/ or you can try this place. they have some parts for an 83 GL1100..........https://greensboro.craigslist.org/mpd/d ... 11259.html scroll down the list until you get to the "street bike" section, then scroll down to see the 83 GL1100.

On the 83 interstate the front and rear left side calipers are the same. They have 32mm pistons and you should find a stamp of the number 32 on the forward facing side of the caliper just above where disk exits. The front right has 25mm pistons while the 82 had 30’s all around.

Btw, any caliper you find should be rebuilt with new seals and probably new pistons if you don’t want to put the effort into cleaning up the old ones.
See the How-to section for excellent write ups o these jobs.

Happy hunting!
