Foot pegs corrected

Post by challman »

I feel a little silly but.
I am getting rid of the running boards on my 83 gl1100I. I have looked in the 2 different manuals, and all over the internet, but I just can't find any pics or docs which show how they actually mount. Can someone help me? Maybe a closeup of their pegs on origional mounts? Anything?

this may be obvious to me once I tear the old stuff all off, but still.

The stock pegs have a little nob or something on the end which looks like it goes against something to prevent the pegs rotating on their (BOLTS?)

Help Please!

You won't find them in the Honda manuals, because there are no Honda highway pegs - they're all aftermarket, and as such will attach differently. Most of the ones I've seen just clamp on the crash bars.

Hm, I've don't know if I've actually seen a set of those, come to think of it! Virtually every 1100 I see has foot boards.

They bolt right in and there is a little dowel like piece that the nob locks into. I think the picture tells the story. Not sure how to post the picture. Send me your email address and I will send you a picture.

Did you get your picture yet? Some sellers on ebay have them and you can go to honda dealerships web page and look at them on the microfish... I yanked the running boards off my GL1100i and got the stock pegs so I have more options to put my 29 inseam legs on the ground. Saved a few pounds too!

Yes I did get the pictures thank you very much for that. It helps immensely being able to see a picture of what you're thinking about. I am getting ready to go in and have surgery today so I will be the offline for a few days. Thank you very much for information.

Thank you for posting this as I am debating going to the stock pegs. I have Markland floorboards and unfortunately when younger had an R5c Yamaha. Every now and then I drag the floorboards around a corner which I find disconcerting.
If my situation doesn't improve here in Michigan, I'm considering going out to San Francisco to spend some time with my daughter and quite frankly, these boards just ain't going to hold up there north of the Golden Gate. Perhaps more appropriately, the boards may hold up but my body won't.

I wish the pegs were a little more forward.

I hate to be that guy, but does anyone still have the stock pegs and the brackets they come with? I scoured the internet and can't find any anywhere. I found a break pedal and a shift lever but no pegs. I have half a mind to get some adjustable clamp-on highway pegs and mount them to the frame somehow...
I am attaching the pics of my floorboards, I'd be willing to trade that whole set (floorboard, heel shifter, brake pedal, and the frame they come with) for stock pegs set. Floorboards just really aren't my thing and shifting or breaking with them is a pain.

Yes, those look pretty beat up, even considering the horrible photo quality. The guy also wants $65 for them, it cost me $50 to get both levers and the aftermarket pegs. I got the brake pedal and the shifter one yesterday and I got a pair of clamp-on highway pegs to see if I can rig something temporarily.
The issue with the stock brackets is that they are of a different design than pegs nowadays so none of the aftermarkets looks like they will fit. Meaning, what you get is what you will be stuck with unless someone else sells an old pair online.
If the aftermarket highway pegs won't work I might get those, beggars can't be choosers I guess. I can also put the floorboards with the associated hardware on ebay as well, just kinda figured someone here might be interested since the set is in very good condition.

Apparently, someone on eBay just put up basically an entire 1100 pieced out, the pegs were in very good condition and $20 each so I got them both.
If anyone is interested in the floorboards and the stuff they come with please PM me, I will probably throw those up on eBay once I put the original pegs on. As I said, they look good but they made me feel awkward shifting.

I don't see an edit option, otherwise, I wouldn't have double-posted here.
