External engine bolts...where can I get them?

Post by bofler »

The PO of my bike had chrome covers on the sides of the bike, but I prefer it without (for both aesthetic and practical access reasons). Apparently, to allow space to attach the covers, a longer bolt was used on the final drive cover. Without the chrome covers the bolt is too long and won't seat (see photo). Where can I get these little 6mm bolts with 8mm heads that match the rest? I just need that one. Also, how crucial is this single bolt when the other three on the final drive cover are properly in place?

any Honda parts source,

just look them up in the parts fiche.

but, once you find the descriptions, go to Fastenal and most likely they will have them.

If there is enough thread, you could always just shorten that bolt, too.

I had to replace a lot of machine screws & bolts on my restoration. I got them at the local Home Depot, Menards, Ace hardware. But sometimes the heads didn't exactly match in shape, diameter, or finish. I either ignored that, and used them anyway. Or I replaced the other ones in the matched set so that all were of the same style again. In some cases I deliberately replaced JIS screws, or pan head screws with allen socket heads for easier removal during future maintenance.
