Clutch won't disengage after stator replacement

Post by chris22indy@att.net »

So I had the clymer and the factory service manual when I did this and I'm sure it is together right. But when I put the clutch together the first time I moved the lever and the lifter on the cover moved the bearing out of the lifter plate and it wouldn't come back. I took the cover of and looked at it and just assumed it would work right with oil in it. I let it sit with oil on it for a day and night before trying it but it seems to have done the same thing. I don't have a lifter rod but everything I can find says the 83 doesn't have one and there wasn't one when I first took it apart right after riding it. Please help, I'm ready to ride after having the bike apart for a week.
