Huge Oil spill!!

Post by imadamine »

Hi guys,
I went for a long ride two month ago and ridden my GL 1100 for about 5 hours straight with no rest at all and the weather was really hot ( around 38•C ). Still not sure if this relates to the issue i'm about to talk about. But I finished my ride parked my GW and had to leave overseas for some work and came back two month later to find a really huge oil spill underneath my engine. It leaked oil so much that i'm pretty sure it had no more engine oil in it, took a look underneath the bike and the oil looked like leaking from the back side of the engine sliding to front side and then droping down.
Any suggestions what would have went wrong?

Cheers guys,

Your not going to like this, but look into the dreaded water pump o-ring failure. It has 2 o-rings on the pump. 1 fails and it dumps coolant, the other fails and it dumps oil. Your description is identical to what I experienced. Mine dumped 1.5 Quarts of oil on the driveway upon arriving home after a 4 hour ride. Good Luck!

Use brake cleaner to spray the oil clean off the engine, then give it a light dusting with flour or talcum powder (spray deodorant works, too). This will quickly show exactly where the oil is coming from.

have not heard back from you as to what was the cause...... so here is my guess......... judging from the smiling faces of you and your friends i wouldn't put it past one of them taking advantage of you being gone and knowing how much you care for your bike poured some oil under you bike. and i plead the 5th as to whether or not i have ever done anything like that !!!! but now you can tell us what really happened.
